Acne in the Celebrity Spotlight. It’s Not Pretty.
August 19, 2008
Think it would be nice to live the celebrity lifestyle? It definitely has its perks, like VIP treatment and red-carpet events. And it’s hard not to look fabulous when you have photographers and makeup artists who are paid to make you look good.
With dermatologists at their beck and call, you’d think it would be easy for celebrities to have beautiful, clear skin. But, apparently, they struggle with acne care like the rest of us. There’s one major difference though… when they have a breakout, it could wind up in the news or on the ‘net.
Here’s our list of celebs who’ve been caught with acne:
Victoria Beckham
Some stars admit they’ve had acne problems, but not Posh Spice. She denies it fiercely. Almost too fiercely. She also claims the media manipulates photos to make her look bad.

Paris Hilton
This party girl has talked about her acne, but blames it on a heavy travel schedule. Whatever the reason, this photo is so not hot!

Jessica Alba
Jessica may be showing signs of pregnancy acne here, but she’s been spotted with acne before baby as well.

Ethan Hawke
A blogger calls this “serious acne.” We’re not sure it’s that bad, but Ethan’s known to have acne problems.

Keira Knightley
This down-to-earth beauty freely admits she’s battled acne for years and sometimes gets as much as 3 to 4 hours of makeup before filming. She’s also mentioned in interviews that she likes herbal medicines and has found them very helpful. (Hmmm… maybe we should introduce her to Oeco?) Her “Pirates of the Caribbean” co-stars, Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom, have also been seen with acne.
Drew Barrymore and Tyra Banks might be better at hiding it—that or we haven’t found the right photos—but they’ve both had issues with adult acne and have tried various acne treatments and skin care products over the years.
How would YOU like to go through puberty on stage?
Remember these teens the next time you curse about your zits and be glad you don’t have to deal with heavy acne in front of a global audience. That kind of pressure only adds to the stress and it’ll only get worse for new, freshman actors with the dawn of HDTV.
Jesse McCartney
Singer and actor Jesse McCartney is a teen heartthrob, but unfortunately, can’t hide heavy acne in these photos.

Harry Potter Actors
“We had to employ a special effects man to go through every frame clearing up their complexions,” said an insider of the latest Harry Potter movie. All three stars had acne during filming, although only Daniel Radcliffe is shown here.

Embarrassing as they are for the stars, these photos show us celebrities are human after all and have the same acne problems. The extra pressure, not to mention all of that heavy stage makeup, only works against them. We suggest they clear up with an acne-care system like Oeco, which has certified organic ingredients and is free of chemicals that don’t belong on skin (preservatives and harsh detergents, for example). We’ll even offer them free samples.
Get your own free sample of Oeco. (And no, you don’t have to be a celebrity.) It’s our way of introducing our new acne treatment and a great way to get camera-worthy skin.

Hide Zits with These Cover-Up Tricks
August 19, 2008
We’ve all had those mornings… waking up to meet the ‘mac daddy’ of zits or finding a red tide of acne. It’s usually on a big day too– before your date with a new guy or girl or, God forbid, the day of the prom. Emergency-cover-up mode is not a fun place to be, but until your acne care prevents breakouts, you won’t have much choice.
So what kinds of cover-up tricks do you use? We’ve seen guys and girls use tricks of all kinds, from real simple to real silly.. Makeup? Hats? Weird clothing? Wild hairstyles? How do YOU cover up acne? And how far are you willing to go?
Whether your cover up is simple or elaborate, treat your blemishes before putting other products on them. A cream or spot treatment with benzoyl peroxide and organic ingredients like aloe vera and myrtle targets bacteria and offsets dryness or irritation. After that first important step, you might want to try tricks like these:
Makeup tricks: from tried and true to new
You may have used makeup to hide zits, but have you tried disguising your acne by working with it, instead of against it? That’s what Tyra Banks did. She used an eyebrow pencil to make a pimple look like a mole, a la Cindy Crawford. That only works with a single pimple, but it’s pretty creative.
Using makeup is the best and the easiest way to hide acne. There are many tips on how to use it as a cover up and they usually include:
- The big three: concealer, liquid foundation (that’s skin-colored coverup for you guys) and powder. Tips that use these three are repeated often because they work. And with the variety of color shades available, it’s almost impossible not to find a shade that’s right for you.
- Mineral powder (finely milled powder). New mineral powders on the market are becoming more popular with men, because they’re easy to use (all you need is a brush) and do a great job of covering up.
- Our tip: makeup applicators like sponges, puffs, concealer applicator sticks and brushes can harbor bacteria. Do yourself a favor by using clean fingertips, Q-tips, cotton balls or disposable sponges and puffs instead. Wash your makeup brushes often too.
Fashion mistakes. Or are they?
If makeup’s not your style, try experimenting with clothes, hats and accessories. You might risk getting on the neighborhood’s “worst dressed” list, but if they say faux-pas, we say who cares?
- Tempted to use the celebrity-in-hiding look? It doesn’t really work for celebrities, but maybe it’ll work for you. Big shades and a baseball cap (or hoodie) won’t hide the acne, but with the right attitude, this look could scream “stay away.”
- Winter clothes can be bulky… and distracting. Scarves and hats usually accentuate the face, but if you work it right, they could also divert the eye with unusual styles or colors (Russian-style tundra hat anyone?). Just don’t wear a red scarf. It’ll highlight red skin.
- Hair styles that scream or screen. Another way to distract is with wild hair, funky styles or loud colors. Or try to cover acne with full bangs, long lengths and wispy hair. Be careful with hair products that might contribute to the skin problem though.
- Other camouflage. Few people can get away with more extreme wear like masks, veils or coverings. So unless you’re an operating room nurse, enjoy the sport of fencing, live in a SARS-infested area of Asia, or work on a hazmat team, don’t do it unless you’re going for a laugh.
The best tip of all
The best way to get rid of acne is with prevention. Get out in front of the problem with a consistent skin care treatment that prevents breakouts in the first place. Try a free sample of Oeco’s organic acne treatment. It combines the potency of top acne medicines with the moisturizing and soothing qualities of botanical extracts. It’s our eco-friendly alternative for clear, healthy skin.
What’s your favorite cover-up tip?
Have you used any of the tricks we’ve mentioned or do you have a tip that could help others? We’d love to hear about it.
Bad Skin Day? Get Clear with an Organic Acne Treatment
June 13, 2008
A bad hair day is hard enough, but how do you deal with a bad skin day? It’s tough to stay upbeat when you’re trying to keep acne under cover. Using acne creams that don’t work and having a breakout you can’t hide just add to the stress. But don’t let your frustration keep you from taking the next step in skin care… an organic acne treatment that’s gentle with your skin and the environment.
Why buy organic? Oeco’s organic acne treatment is gentle yet effective, green yet wallet friendly. It’s skin repair that cares.
If you’ve tried other acne treatments, you know they can be drying, irritating and ineffective. They can also contain preservatives, detergents and genetically modified organisms—all of which are absorbed into the body. We don’t know their full effects. Do you?
The organic difference
With Oeco, it’s about lessening the impact on the environment and your skin, without weakening the properties that fight acne. Botanical extracts and essential oils give you the organic difference in a formula that’s as eco-friendly as possible. They calm the skin, soothe irritation and boost the effects of two leading acne medicines.
The result is beautiful, clear skin and a more positive effect on the environment. Oeco’s organic acne treatment…
- Includes chamomile, aloe vera, Australian tea tree oil and other organic ingredients.
- Is free of preservatives, GMOs (genetically modified organisms), detergents, artificial colors or fragrances, and is cruelty-free.
- Comes in recyclable packaging and an eco-friendly bag that is hand-washable and reusable.
- Sources ingredients from farms using renewable resources, conservation techniques and no pesticides.
Organic skin care with a secret: OrganiClear™
Have you tried various acne creams, cleansers or solutions without success? Many acne sufferers go through product after product, only to feel let down in a series of disappointments. But with consistent use of the right formula, it’s possible to clear up pimples and prevent future breakouts. Reduce your eco footprint too.
OrganiClear TM, Oeco’s exclusive formula, clears and treats acne problems with elements that balance each other and your skin. It uses the naturally gentle properties of ingredients that are certified organic. Acne treatment medicines benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid also add their strength to this powerful combination, which:
- Targets the bacteria that cause persistent acne.
- Offsets dryness, redness and irritation with anti-inflammatory extracts and soothing essential oils.
- Is formulated with dermatologists and is non-comedogenic (won’t clog your pores).
- Puts organic ingredients to work with two of the top acne medicines.
While it includes a few non-organic ingredients, Oeco offers the best option for an organic acne treatment that works. Benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid aren’t yet available in organic form, but as the top acne-fighting agents, they give you the best results. If organic alternatives become available for these ingredients, the formula may change. Until then, we’ll keep delivering healthy skin with a system that’s as environmentally friendly as possible.
No catch, just good acne skin care
With the growing demand for organic skin care, you may see new products trying to claim the highest percentage of organic ingredients. In fact, some companies treat it as a “marketing game” to convince you to buy. But that’s a game we won’t play.
We focus instead on being eco-friendly, effective and easy to use. We don’t claim to be 100% organic—just good at producing clear, healthy skin with an eco-sensitive system. Check out Oeco’s home page right here: www.o-eco.com

Organic Acne Treatment – Oeco
March 3, 2008
Oeco™ is a natural, organic acne treatment system that uses certified organic ingredients in the formula. It’s free of ingredients such as petrochemicals, parabens, GMOs, detergents or sulfates, artificial colors or fragrances, and it’s cruelty-free. Oeco also won’t clog pores (non-comedogenic).
The name Oeco™ is a combination of organic and eco-friendly – that is what we stand for. In addition to using certified organic ingredients wherever possible, the products come in an eco-friendly, reusable, hand washable bag made from recycled materials.
The Oeco Logo comes from Zen Buddhism’s sacred Enso.
The
in Oeco™ is actually a powerful and sacred symbol in Zen Buddhism called Enso. It means simplicity, clarity, enlightenment, no beginning no end (infinity), strength, elegance, the universe, and the void.
To ensure authenticity, we had our own Enso custom made by master Japanese calligrapher, Eri Takase, owner of Takase Studios. Ms. Takase trained in traditional Japanese calligraphy since the age of six and was awarded the rank of Shihan or Master in Japan’s most prestigious calligraphic societies, the Bokuteki-kai and Bunka-shodo.
Why the
(enso)? Because it represents what we want for ourselves on the inside and out: clarity, balance, and harmony. When you have acne, it is a sign that your body is out of balance. The Oeco™ organic acne treatment system will help you and your skin get back into harmony.
This blog is just beginning, but will eventually have information about acne treatments that are natural, organic and effective. We’ll also be blogging about beauty, fashion, health, etc since everything is related.
Hope to see you again soon!
